Our People

Meet Our Pastor & Staff

Rev. Terrance A. Jacob

Senior Pastor

Rev. Terrance Jacob serves as our Senior Pastor with a heart grounded in Jesus Christ and a life shaped by the pursuit of justice, compassion, and authentic discipleship. Born in South Africa and shaped by the struggle against apartheid, Reverend Jacob brings a global perspective to faith — one rooted in liberation, healing, and the transforming power of God’s grace. Even before his ordination as a pastor in 1992, he has served the church ecumenically in various capacities, notably as senior staff of the Gamaliel Foundation, a congregation-based community organizing network out of Chicago (1997-2007).

With decades of pastoral experience across two continents, Rev. Jacob has led congregations through renewal, reconciliation, and deeper engagement with the world. In the US, Pastor Jacob has served as senior pastor in Minneapolis, Gainesville, FL and Durham NC. He also served the national office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA) as Director for Evangelical Mission and was deployed to serve in Offices of the Bishop in Sierra Pacific Synod, CA, Northeastern Ohio Synod, and Florida-Bahamas Synod (PT).

His preaching always challenges and inspires, calling us beyond comfort into Christ-centered action. A former anti-apartheid activist, community organizer in the democratic South Africa and the US, and seasoned coach to clergy, Pastor Jacob believes the church must not only worship faithfully, but live courageously. Whether in the pulpit, the streets, or a coaching circle, Pastor Terrance leads with prophetic clarity, deep empathy, and an unwavering call to follow Jesus boldly.

He is joyfully married to Crystal Jacob, a former school principal and special education professional. They are the proud parents of Kemuel, a senior project manager in marketing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and Sharai, an associate pastor at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and leader of HT Loop in Chicago.

Serving Saint Andrew Lutheran Church since July 1, 2025, we give thanks for Pastor Jacob’s leadership among us — a shepherd, teacher, and companion on the journey of faith.
